Executive Summary

Bexson Transport is committed to offering an environment of inclusion and accessibility, consistently and frequently identifying, removing, and preventing barriers to ensure potential and existing employees, visitors and contractors feel welcome and supported. Our combined efforts will contribute to a barrier-free Canada, ultimately ensuring equal access and participation between those with and without disabilities by the year 2040.

Definitions

Accessibility

Refers to the needs of persons with disabilities being intentionally and thoughtfully considered when products, services and facilities are built or modified so they can be used and enjoyed by persons of all abilities.

Barrier

The Accessible Canada Act defines a barrier as “anything—including anything physical, architectural, technological or attitudinal, anything that is based on information or communications or anything that is the result of a policy or a practice—that hinders the full and equal participation in society of persons with an impairment, including a physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication or sensory impairment or a functional limitation.”

Disability

The Accessible Canada Act defines a disability as “any impairment, including a physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication or sensory impairment—or a functional limitation— whether permanent, temporary or episodic in nature, or evident or not, that, interaction with a barrier, hinders a person’s full and equal participation in society.”

Feedback

Feedback is not only appreciated but encouraged, and any information gathered during the process will be reviewed and utilized to improve the current systems in place when feasible.

Alternative Formats

The accessibility plan, future progress reports, as well as feedback processes will be made available in any of the following formats upon request, and will be provided within the specified term of such request:

  • Print (20 days)
  • Large print (20 days)
  • Braille (45 days)
  • Audio format (20 days)
  • Electronic format that is compatible with adaptive technology and that is intended to assist individuals with disabilities (20 days)

Progress Reports

As required, progress reports will be published each year by the anniversary of the initial plan’s publication to provide updates, refine commitments, and include any feedback received.

Employment

Bexson Transport is committed to improving workplace accessibility, ensuring candidates and employees with disabilities and those who experience barriers are supported throughout the entire employment lifecycle.

Currently, Bexson Transport does not attract any applicants from underrepresented populations such as persons with disabilities. Accessibility will be addressed by the following:

  • Include an equal opportunity employer statement on all position ads
  • Train hiring manager on accessibility

The Built Environment

Bexson Transport is committed to ensuring workspaces and the work environment is accessible for all, implementing and/or improving publicly accessible facilities wherever possible.

Currently, Bexson Transport has all available amenities on the main level. This ensures that those with disabilities do not have to access the top level(s) of the building under any circumstances. Further accessibility will be addressed by the following:

  • Review and update, as necessary, emergency and disaster response plans to account for employees, and visitors with disabilities
  • Evaluate offices and facilities to assess the need for further accessibility features, such as workstations for individuals that present a mobility impairment

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

Bexson Transport is committed to ensuring information and communication is available to all individuals, including various technological tools used to send, store, create, share or exchange information.

Currently, though accessibility functionality is present in many areas, we recognize that systemic barriers exist within technology and presumptions are made about its use. Further accessibility will be address by the following:

  • Review the website content for barriers, including:
    • Text contrast
    • Text size
    • Navigation and compatibility with screen readers
    • Clear formatting
  • Provide guidance and support on accessibility features upon orientation process with alternative methods of delivery available upon request
  • Provide information and communication in alternative formats upon request within the indicated timelines

Communication, Other Than ICT

Bexson Transport is committed to providing barrier free access for the public, clients and employees for all communications that Bexson focuses for this audience.

Currently, Bexson Transport does not have a consistent process developed to ensure alternative formats of communication are available and able to be provided in a timely manner. Accessibility will be addressed by the following:

  • Identify service providers and methods to create alternative formats where appropriate and required in order to provide communication in alternative formats upon request within the indicated timelines
  • Review orientation and training processes and resources for new and existing employees for improvements to accessibility

Procurement of Goods, Services, and Facilities

Bexson Transport is committed to ensuring accessibility is considered at the beginning of the buying process.

Currently, Bexson Transport does not have any procurement processes outlined, and will address accessibility by the following:

  • Develop procurement practices to improve, where reasonable and applicable, the consideration of accessibility in the purchase of goods, services and the use or purchase of facilities

Design and Delivery of Programs and Services

Bexson Transport is committed to making accessibility considerations when designing and delivering the company’s internal and external programs and services.

Currently, there is not standard approach for ensuring all programs, processes and services have taken accessibility into account. Accessibility will be addressed by the following:

  • Develop and promote guidelines on how to apply the accessibility lens when reviewing company policies, programs and services

Transportation

Bexson Transport does not coordinate a transportation system, or a fleet of transportation vehicles, as defined in the Accessible Canada Act. This indicates that the standards for transportation are not in the scope of this plan.

Consultations

In order to align with Bexson Transport’s commitment to make our workplace environment accessible to all, we have developed our Accessibility Plan in consultation with our employees, including those with disabilities.

To complete these consultations, we utilized paper forms, an online survey, as well as 1-on-1 interviews for employees both with and without disabilities, based on their preference(s) and abilities. Anonymity was provided with the option to provide contact information if preferred.
